Vitamin B12 Injections

What is Vitamin B12?
Vitamin B12 is a nutrient that helps keep the body's nerve and blood cells healthy and helps make DNA, the genetic material in all cells. Vitamin B12 also helps prevent a type of anaemia called megaloblastic anaemia that makes people tired and weak.

B12 Deficiency
The NHS lists the symptoms of B12 deficiency as follows, however you should always consult your doctor over any medical concerns.
  • extreme tiredness
  • a lack of energy
  • pins and needles (paraesthesia)
  • a sore and red tongue
  • mouth ulcers
  • muscle weakness
  • disturbed vision
  • psychological problems, which may include depression and confusion
  • problems with memory, understanding and judgement
Some of these problems can also happen if you have a deficiency in vitamin B12 but do not have anaemia.

Natural Sources of B12

While the best sources of B12 are found in Beef Liver and Clams, it is also found in a range of mainly animal products such as dairy products, eggs, fish (sardines, trout, salmon, clams), meat and poultry. Some other foods also contain B12 like almonds and fortified products but vegans may find it harder to maintain the correct levels of B12 naturally.
